Obituary of Barbara Nell Gregg
Please share a memory of Barbara to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Mrs. Barbara Nell Gregg (Dedeaux), 85, transitioned from her earthly life on Sunday, June 27, 2021, at home with family by her side. Barbara Nell, Nana, Niggs or NaNan, as she was affectionately called, was born in Delisle, Mississippi on September 27, 1935, the daughter of Stanley Dedeaux and Florence Dedeaux.
Barbara attended and graduated from St. Philomena Catholic. She was swept off her feet by a well-suited Airman named David Gregg, and they married on June 29, 1961. They had a loving marriage of 56 years before his death in 2017. After marrying in her hometown, they were well traveled due to her husband’s career in the Air force. They then settled down and decided to make Denver, Colorado their home. Together she and her husband had one child, David Delain Gregg. She loved her son very much and adored the three grandchildren that he blessed her with—they gave her tremendous joy. She loved the Lord, was a devout Catholic and was a member of Cure D’ Ars Catholic Church.
She worked in hospitality and received her Certification from Sheraton Inn, where she went on to manage in various areas of the hotel. When she retired from there, she kept serving by taking care of the elderly for several more years. Because she had such a big heart, those that she took care of would often send her home with cherished items that would normally go to one of their heirs. On one specific occasion, although she didn’t need it, she was even given a car.
Mrs. Gregg had many qualities and interest including love of family, always lending a helpful hand or words of encouragement, love of children, loved going to the mountains to enjoy herself, dancing, (she was the life of any party), loved to dress to a “T”, worked hard to be the best in her craft, loved collecting frog figurines, and loved the simple things like watching the old western shows or any black and white show from the old days and game shows. She was a faithful prayer warrior, and always feeding everyone with her DELICIOUS cooking—especially known for her Gumbo and Melatone.
Mrs. Gregg was preceded in death by her parents, Florence, and Stanley Dedeaux. She was the second eldest of their eleven children. She was also preceded in death by four sisters, Edith Joyce Cook, Madeline Lias, Betty Ann Dedeaux and Lorna Rose Daniels; two brothers, Lionel Dedeaux and Ausker Dedeaux, Sr.; two sister-in-law’s Marilyn Dedeaux and Barbara Virginia Gregg; four brother-n-law’s, Eugene Gregg, Howard Hightower, Freddie Cook and Cornelius Barnett, Sr.
She is survived by her son, David Delain Gregg, Denver CO; brothers, Terry (Verna) Dedeaux, Pass Christian, MS and Kevin (Pamela) Dedeaux; sisters, Cynthia M. Hightower, Pass Christian, MS and Maion Barnette, Madison AL; grandchildren, Jasmine Rose-Marie Gregg, Aurora, CO, Tréy Delain Outlaw-Gregg, Aurora, CO and Alana Renae Outlaw-Gregg, Aurora, CO; one great-grandson, Brandon Elijah Love, Aurora, CO; God-daughter Sandra (John) Singleton, along with a host of other nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins and many more family and dear friends.
We will miss her caring ways and faithful presence. Her love and lessons will forever be a part of us.
