Obituary of Joyce Anne Jackson

The sun rose on the life of Mrs. Joyce Anne Jackson on October10, 1942 in McAlester, Oklahoma when she was born to Jimmy Lee Walton and Gladys Finch. The second of six children, she had two brothers, Romeo and Frankie and three sisters,Harold Jean, Theresa and Sharold. As a child, she was always singing, teaching and playing school. She would line her siblings up and "teach school" and read stories to them from her books. Educated in the public School System, she graduated from L'Ouverture High School in McAlester. She continued her education at Langston University in Langston, OK, earning a Bachelor Degree in Education. She later earned a MBA at University of Northern Colorado in Education.On November 15, 1968, Joyce was united in marriage with the love of her life,Huey Jackson whom she knew in McAlester. The couple exchanged their vows in Denver, Colorado. He remembers, "We've done it our way. We've trusted in thereason of our hearts instead of following the tried and true, knowing what was right foreveryone else might not be right for us." To this union were born two preciouschildren, Huey Jr. and Terri. She was a devoted wife and loving mother. In lateryears, her grandchildren, Ashley, Avery, Taylor, Amare and Taya remember,"Nina would make up the best stories that would make us laugh or learn something. Shesang old negro spirituals to help us fall asleep." A woman of faith, Joyce was a member of Mississippi Avenue Baptist Church.By profession an educator, she was employed with Denver Public Schools for 34years until she retired. "Dedicated and intelligent, she worked hard educating future leaders." In her free time, Joyce enjoyed family, friends, traveling and decorating.Her best friends, Theresa Jackson, Ada Smith, Eloise Ball and Dorothy Richardson loved her for her loving and kind nature and her dependability. "She made everyone feel special, unique, loved, important and confident in many ways. She touched so many lives, from the children she taught to the friends and family she loved."Her elegance, gentle love and kindness, words of wisdom and beauty will be deeply missed by all who were blessed to share Joyce's life. To know her was truly to love her.The sun set on the life of Mrs. Joyce Anne Jackson on March 21, 2014 when the Lord called her home to eternal rest. She is preceded in death by her parents,one brother and one sister. Those left to cherish her memory include her husband, Huey Jackson, Sr. of Denver, CO; son, Huey Jackson, Jr. of Brighton,CO; daughter, Terri (Steve) Jackson-Waller of Aurora, CO; brother, Romeo (Rosemary)Finch of Los Angeles, CA; sisters, Theresa Jackson of Dallas, TX and Sharold (Cecil)Patterson of Killeen, TX; 5grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins,other relatives and friends.
