The sun rose on the life of Ms. Evelyn Hicks on May 11, 1941 in Littlerock, Arkansas when she was born to Arthur Lee Johnson and Elizabeth Jones. The third of ten children, Evelyn had six brothers, Robert, Arthur Lee, Wilford, Larry, Willie James and Wayne and three sisters, Mary, Peggy and Wilean. A happy-go-lucky child, she loved to play, laugh and have fun. Educated in the public school system, she graduated from high school in Champaign, Illinois. On February 10, 1961, Evelyn was united in marriage with Jerry McClellan in Champaign, IL. To this union was born one child, Toni. The marriage was later dissolved. She was later united in marraige with Moses Hicks in Champaign. She was also the loving mother of Malik, Belinda and Brenda. In later years, her grandchildren, LeTosha, Lynntez, Leshae, Jaton, Simone, Taran, Tracey, Brianna and Alexxys were an added source of joy and pride in her life. They called her "Grandma" or "G.G." and loved her dearly. A woman of faith, Evelyn was a member of Powerhouse COGIC in Champaign. She served the Lord and her church as an Evangelist, Deaconess and Sunday School Teacher. Prior to Powerhouse, she worked diligently at New Hope COGIC. Her favorite expression was, "The good Lord will fix it. Don't worry, it's in God's hands." Evelyn was employed with Kraft Foods as a line worker for 26 years, until her retirement. She was honored with recognition for extraordinary performance in attaining 10,684,480 hours without missing work for injury or illness. In her free time, Evelyn enjoyed family, friends, studying the bible and watching basketball and football. Her best friends were Beatrice, Carolyn and Lue Ella. Her favorite color was red. She loved roses and gospel music. A woman of God that loved to share the gospel, she loved to pray and talk to God. She was greatly loved and she will be deeply missed.
