Please share a memory of Elder to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Elder Clifton J. Young was born on March 23, 1944 in Oakland, Louisiana to the late Ossie Bell-Everett and Cleveland Young. He had one sister, Eva Mae Cowans and two brothers, John Willie and Dennis Ray Honeycutt. Eva Mae and John Willie both preceded him in death. He attended Mayfield High School in Homer, Louisiana. After graduation, he continued his education, at Grambling State College from 1962- 1965. He also attended the Community College of Denver from 1977-1979. He studied Music and General Education. He served in the United States Army at Fort Bliss. Cliff, as he was affectionately called, had two daughters from a previous marriage, Angela and Cristal Young. He later met the former Linda Mayfield in May, 1981 in Denver and on September 2, 1989 they were united in marriage and remained a devoted couple until his death. To this union was born one son, Brendton Young. He was also devoted to Linda's three children, Phaneissa, Byron and Kendron and he accepted them as his own. Uncle Cliff was also like a father to his nieces and nephews especially his niece, Lequita because when she was born, he was only fourteen years old and after moving to Denver, they became very close along with her brothers. He would always get in trouble with his sister, Eva Mae, for letting them hang out and be grown with him. He would always let Lequita have house parties at his house on 30th and Birch Street where it was always live at the house. Elder Clifton was ordained as a deacon at an early age. He was anointed and an educated musician for many years. He was a well- known musician and singer while singing with the groups Israelite Travelers, Unity Gospel Group, and CML Ministries throughout Denver, just to name a few. He was also the founder of his gospel music group Roots and Branches which continued for many years. Cliff was a radio announcer for years on 1510 KDKO radio with Dr. Daddio and the Old Ship of Zion with the late Mack Craft. He was a former bus driver for RTD in Denver and Dart of Dallas, Texas. One of his favorite expressions was "we are walking in the blessings of Abraham". He would quote "The days of our years are three score and ten". Elder Young was excited about the ministry and loved to teach on life lessons. His works will not be forgotten. He loved God and people and proved that time and time again. Elder Clifton J. Young went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, September 4, 2014 while celebrating his 25th wedding anniversary with his wife, Linda in Grand Canyon, Nevada. Elder Clifton J. Young leaves to cherish his memory his devoted wife, Linda Young of Desoto, TX; children, Angela (Jesse) Young of Greenbrier, AR, Cristal Young of Nashville, AR, Brendton Young of Desoto, TX, Phaneissa Brown of Marietta, GA, Byron (Mimi) and Kendron Mayfield, both of Aurora, CO; brother, Rev.
