Obituary of Doris Ann Chambers
Please share a memory of Doris to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
The sun rose on the life of Mrs. Doris Ann Chambers on November 14, 1934 in Newart, Arkansas when she was born to Charles and Edna Mae Nelson, Sr. The second of three children, Doris had one brother, Charles, Jr. and one sister, Norman Jean. Music and dancing were a big part of her life while growing up. In her early years, she was a member of the musical group, the Jivettes. She was also a member of the USO team where she truly enjoyed making people smile. Educated in the public school system, Doris graduated from Manual High School in Denver, Colorado. On March 11, 1956, Doris married the love of her life, Paul Norman Chanbers in Denver and together they traveled the world over serving their country in the United States Air Force for twenty years. She always said that leaving the USO and getting married to her lifelong soulmate was the happiest decision of her life. To this union weres born six children, Karen, Vicki, Michael, Gail, Terry and Pamela. She instilled so many values and memories in her children, but none were more important than the ability to see the world through her loving and caring eyes and know the true importance of faith and family. Her grandchildren, Littleton, Katrina, Marshant, Ronald, Jr., Tiffany, Niesha, Tywon, Miko, Clayton, James, Amir, Adhan and her great grandchildren called her "NaNa" and loved her dearly. Doris was a member of Mt. Gilead Baptist Church and served as choir secretary for several years. She was employed at Lowry Air Force Base where she worked as a cashier in the dining halls for twenty years before retiring. In her free time, Doris enjoyed writing poetry, singing, creating magical artistry on canvas and was an avid Denver Broncos fan. She had many friends and because of traveling the world over, she was able to create many lasting and lifelong friendships. Her life's goal was to follow in her husband's footsteps in keeping their family together. She was the matriarch of her family and proved it every day. Her most lasting impact on everyone was her unwavering ability to smile through whatever situations came her way. Her love, caring, beautiful smile and dedication to her family will be deeply missed by all who were blessed to share a part of this lovely lady's life. "She was an angel living and walking among us." To know Doris was to love her. The sun set on the life of Mrs. Doris Ann Chambers on January 24, 2015 when the Lord called her home to eternal rest. She is preceded in death by her husband, parents and sister. Those left to cherish her memory include her sons, Terry (Bianca) Chambers of Aurora, CO and Michael Chambers of Denver, CO; daughters, Karen (Lloyd) Graves of Aurora, CO, Pamela Chambers of Denver, CO, Vicki Evans of Atlanta, GA and Gail (Ronald) Marshall of Dallas, TX; brother, Charles (Dorothy) Nelson, Jr. of Fairfield, CA; 13 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
