Obituary of Pastor Marvin Leon Paige
Please share a memory of Pastor to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Pastor Marvin Leon Paige was born March 14, 1942 in Bunceton, Missouri to the union of the late Superintendent Ruben and Missionary Katie Mayola Paige. He was the fifth of six children. He received his fundamental education in Denver, Colorado. The family later relocated to California and Missouri where he helped his father build churches and run revivals. Pastor Paige came from a lineage of pastors. In the early 60's, he married Ms. Jessie Young and to that union seven children were born. In 1974 he met Ms. Deborah Shoeboot, who was the love of his life. They united in matrimony April 4, 1980 and to this union five children were born. Pastor Paige was a man full of love and charm who had a way of making everyone feel welcome and like family. He was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather. He loved his children and raised them to reverence the Lord. His grandchildren believed that he was the best grandfather in the whole world. He enjoyed watching the smiles on their faces when they were around him and Christmas was always a special time as he would watch their faces light up as they opened their gifts. He had a special love for the church and was a praying man who loved to dance and praise the Lord. It is said that even before his days of praising the Lord in dance, he was a smooth dancer with lots of wit and charm. He loved the Word of God and was referred to as a "good old gospel preacher." Pastor Paige served faithfully at Community Church of God in Christ, under the leadership of Pastor Darie Shelton. He was appointed Assistant Pastor of the church and in 2001, after the demise of Pastor Shelton, he became the Senior Pastor. He was dedicated to his church and its members and was a humble man with a servant's heart, who sacrificed much to make sure the needs of the church were met. He also served as Chaplain for the Rocky Mountain District Church of God in Christ. Many will recall one of his favorite sayings, "Ninety-nine and a half won't do. You gotta make a hundred." Even as his health began to fail, his desire was to make it out to the House of the Lord. He was determined to make a hundred. Everyone who knew Pastor Paige will agree that although he had a great love for his family and church, he also had another love; hunting, fishing and overnight camping with his sons. He looked forward to the fall of the year when he could go hunting for elk, deer and antelope. Even facing health challenges, a few months ago he was able to go to his favorite hunting spot—Area 500. It was a place of peaceful and happy times for him. Pastor Paige will be greatly missed by those who loved him and spent time with him, but his memories will live on. He was preceded in death by his parents Superintendent Ruben and Missionary Katie Mayola Paige. Two children, Carmella and Marvin Leon II. One granddaughter, Tabasha and her four children. One great grand daughter, Akeema. Three brothers, Richard, James and Corda Ray. One sister, Ann. He leaves to cherish his memories, his devoted wife of 34 years, Missionary Deborah Paige. One brother, Ruben Paige, Jr. Eleven children, Trena (Terry) Hope, Gwendolyn (Bill) Crowles, Bernetta (Jimmie) Herron, Katie Mayola (Steve) Webber, and Pam (Gary) Miller, all of California; Andre Shoeboot-Oliver, Tylah (Dan) Howard, Melvin (Nadia) Paige, Robert (Lillian) Paige, Maxine Paige (Rico) Henderson, and Michael Paige, all of Denver, Colorado. Thirty-six grandchildren, twenty great-grandchildren, Community Church of God in Christ family, devoted friends, and a host of nieces, nephews, and other family.
