Me and my grandma were very close. Especially when I was young. Growing up, me and my family would go to her house on Sundays. We would enjoy her cooking then I would immediately have to go outside or go in the living room to watch TV because she would want to play cards and dominoes with the grown folks. My grandma took so many pictures..she wanted to save the moment. I remember as a child when I had problems, I would call her on the phone and express myself. With her calm voice she would say, "Everything is going to be alright. Just go in your room and be alone." My grandma was very proud of me. From continuations to my graduation, my grandma was so proud. When she found out I landed a job at RTD, she was over excited. She had to call everyone and tell. As an adult, my grandma at times would take me in the back room and we would share secrets and she would make me promise her to be successful. Then she would break out her old records and we would dance. From a baby until last year, my grandma would get me up and have me two step and slow dance with her. She would hold me and kiss on me. Then she would hold me tight and tell me how much she loved me. Nobody understood what me and her felt at that moment. I was alive on top of the world. She would always slip me money or candy and tell me not to tell anyone that it was between me and her. Grandma, I am forever thankful you was there at me and Andrew's wedding. The last thing my grandma told me was if I would be back over next Tuesday because she was going to cook cornish hens and some sides to go with it. I told her that me and my family will definitely be back. Then she said that she loved her nails.. I did a bad job on them. Lol
She didn't think so as she said she was going to show them off at her treatment center the following day. I held her hands then I gave her a hug and kiss and told her that we would be back Tuesday. She said she loved me and the babies and then my husband Andrew gave her a hug and kiss and we left. We were looking forward to that meal. On Tuesday, I got that phone call saying she passed. I was hurt...hurting. I will miss when she would call me. She hardly called me by my name.. "Come here, Lil Vera." "Lil Vera, how you doing?" I will miss her voice. I will miss her cooking. My kids are only four and at first, they would question where GG was. Now that I brought them to terms with her, they are saying how much they miss her. We all will. I am glad my children got to experience a piece of what I had as a child. She will forever be missed and loved. Rest in peace, my love!!
And grandma, "These last two dollars, I'm not gonna lose. One is going for my bus fare. The other one for the juke box."

We are deeply saddened by the loss of "Miss Vera" as we called her. We are going to truly miss her! Miss Vera always welcomed us in her home and treated us like family.
