Obituary of Mother Juanita Hill

The sun rose on the life of Mother Juanita Hill on March 4, 1920 in Madisonville, Texas when she was born to Johnny Porter and Naomi Hubbard-Porter. The fifth of nine children, Juanita had four brothers, Clarence, Lewis, LC and Sam and four sisters, Hazel, Lizzie, Eloise and Johnnie Ann. "After losing her mom at the age of 12, she became the cook for the family. She loved cooking and baking. Her sisters would say, "Anytime you want to find Juanita, look in the kitchen." She and Johnnie Ann were inseparable." Educated in the public school system, Juanita attended elementary school in Coleman, Texas. In 1938, Juanita was united in marriage with Theodore "Ted" Hill in Coleman. She was a homemaker and a good mother. Eventually they moved to Denver, Colorado in 1949. To this union were born seven precious children, Lillie, Conner, Jesse, Booker, Eloise, Justin and Anita "Nita K". The children remember, "She was very crafty and creative and liked to make costumes and clothes for us. She loved to go to picnics, art festivals and Juneteenth with oldest daughter, Lillie. Growing up, if she told you to do something, you better do it right now!" Her grandchildren, Andre, Charnessa, Joy, Tiffany and Raven and her great grandchildren, Joy and Jon-Renee remember "Grandma" for her famous chili dogs and punch. "She always made sure you never left her house hungary. She loved shopping for shoes, hats and jewelry." A woman of faith, Juanita was a member of Greater Union Baptist Church. She served the Lord and her church as a pioneer, mission member, choir member, fashion show model and kitchen helper. She attended Bible Study and Prayer Meeting weekly. A hard worker, outside of taking care of her home and family, Juanita was the manager of the family owned laundromat. In her free time, she enjoyed family, friends, reading the bible, making famous peach cobbler, pineapple cake and sweet potato pies. Her best friends were her four sisters, her church family and the late Ms. Grant. Everyone loved her for her fashionable dressing and hats, beautiful smile, love of God and warm, caring personality. The sun set on the life of Mother Juanita Hill on November 7, 2016 when the Lord called her home to eternal rest. Those left cherish her memory include her children, Lillie, Booker and Eloise; grandchildren, Andre, Joy, Tiffany and Raven; great grandchildren, Joy and Jon-Renee; brother, Sam; nieces and nephews, Clarence, Lena Mae, Nita Jo, Audrey and many more; and a host of other relatives and friends.
