Obituary of Laura Josephine McCabe
Please share a memory of Laura to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
The sun rose on the life of Mrs. Laura Josephine McCabe on October 14, 1927 in Manhattan, Kansas when she was born to Giles and Mary Frances Cooper. The youngest of four children, she had two brothers, Calvin and Raymond and one sister, Opal. As a child, she was always tagging along with her big sister and her friend, Ms. Geraldine. Educated in the public school system, Laura graduated from Manhattan High School. She continued her education at Mackey Business School where she took Business College courses. In 1946, she was united in marriage with Paul F. Parker in Salina, KS. To this union were born four children, Edward, Carol, Paulette and Sharon. The marriage was later dissolved. She was a loving mother. The children remember, "She would always say, "I know you like a book." She had that calming effect when things would go awry. She believed in speaking her mind and then some. She was later united in marriage with Frederick McCabe in Denver, Colorado and became the mother of Frederick and Ted. Her nineteen grandchildren, all loved their "Grandma or Great Grandma". She was very active and supportive in all their lives, from babysitting to attending football games, school functions and graduations. A woman of faith, Laura was a member of Rising Star Missionary Baptist Church. She served her church and the Lord in the office of Secretary of the Missionary Society and would visit the nursing homes as long as she was able. "She was a devoted Christian and loved the Lord. She read her bible every day. When she could no longer attend church, the church brought communion to her. That really made her happy. She will be missed." Laura was employed with the University of Colorado Hospital in the position of a clerk for over 20 years until she retired. Everyone at work loved her dearly. In her free time, she enjoyed family, friends, playing cards (Bid Whiz), bingo and Pokino. Her best friends, Betty, Rachel "Bobbie", Arlena and Aunt Maxine loved her kindness, funny birthday cards and having get togethers. Laura was stubborn, opinionated but fair, funny, witty, had a calm demeanor in a crisis and was a disciplinarian. Her love and joy in life will be missed. To know Laura was to love her. The sun set on the life of Mrs. Laura Josephine McCabe on February 8, 2017 when the Lord called her home to eternal rest. She is preceded in death by her husband, parents, siblings and daughter, Paulette. Those left to cherish her memory include her sons, Edward Parker of Columbus, OH, Ted McCabe and Fred McCabe, both of Aurora, CO; daughters, Sharon K. Williams and Carol (Lessie Steve) Britton, both of Denver, CO; nineteen grandchildren; forty great grandchildren; four great great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Rest in peace...Mrs. Laura
