Obituary of Norris Casey Hardin

The sun rose on the life of Mr. Norris Casey "Honey" Hardin, Sr. on March 1, 1929 in Coffeyville, Kansas when he was born to William Edward Hardin and Georgia Mae Franklin. A happy child, he was always sweet like honey which was the nickname his mother gave him as a baby. Norris was mostly a loner As a child he would spend his time reading and fishing. Norris began his education in Florence, Alabama until the 9th grade when his family returned to Coffeyville where he attended McKinley High School. He remained in Coffeyville through the 11th grade when he returned to Florence and graduated from Burrell High School. Norris was united in marriage with Leona Hardin (Gadlin-Adams). They met in Coffeyville at McKinley High School in 1947. They were married on November 3rd, 1949. Leona and Norris loved traveling abroad to places like Jamaica and Virgin Islands, taking cruises to the Bahamas and their favorite destination, Hawaii. They also loved taking cross country road trips every year with their children and grandchildren. To this union were born three children, Linda Hardin, Norris Hardin Jr, and Rotunda Hardin. The fondest memories of his children were going on several vacations, going camping and being read bible stories at bed time. In later years, his grandchildren: Damon, Kanika, Chanda, Casey, Allie, Devin, Lauren, Diamond and 15 great grandchildren were a special source of great pride and joy in Norris' life. They called him Poppa, and Otis. Norris loved his grandchildren. "He was more of a father to most of us, All of us enjoyed pick ups from school to go to the park for a light snack of bite size snickers, graham crackers and coke. No matter what event any of us participated in he was right there with his camcorder as a one man camera crew." Norris Hardin worked as an assistant facility manager for the Denver public schools for 37 years. After retiring Norris continued to volunteer in various schools his grandchildren attended. At school everyone called him grandpa and he was most known for his silver hair. In his free time he enjoyed filming home videos, spending time with his family, reading his bible and traveling. His best friends were Wiley McClain and Oliver Murphy who loved him for his kind heart and his joking ways. His lasting impact on everyone was his wisdom, his knowledge of the Bible and his knowledge of history. Norris was greatly loved and will be deeply missed. To know him was to love him.The sun set on the life of Mr. Norris Casey "Honey" Hardin, Sr. on April 11, 2017 when he passed into eternal rest. He is preceded in death by his parents. Those left to cherish his memory include his beloved wife, Leona Hardin of Denver, CO; son Norris Hardin, Jr. of Denver, CO; daughters, Linda Hardin of Aurora, CO and Rotunda Hardin of Denver, CO; brothers, William Hardin of Denver, CO, Earl (Cynthia) Hardin of Grand Junction, CO and Edward Hardin of Denver, CO; sisters, Retha Mae (Isaac) Fowler of Denver, CO, Marlene Beck of Kansas City, KS, Joyce (Manual) Portugal and Julie Blumenberg, both of Denver, CO; eight grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; four great great grand-children; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
