Obituary of Oscar Holliday
Please share a memory of Oscar to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Oscar Holliday Jr. was born to Oscar Holliday Sr. and Freddie Mae Holliday (Hatchet) on October 25, 1942 in Rondo, Arkansas. His parents, four brothers; Leroy Billups, Orenzo and Charles Fields and James Otis Jackson, one son, Dwayne Mims and one grandson Derrill Daniel preceded him in death. Oscar passed away on April 18, 2017 in the comfort of his home, in his wife's loving arms. Oscar confessed religion at an early age at Mount Zion M.B. church in Marvell, Arkansas where he sang in the choir. There he graduated from M.M. Tate High School. As an inquisitive child, he was always rambunctious and adventurous while being creative. He loved to fish and would even skip church to do so at times. Oscar was a great dancer and also loved to sing. In 1961 Oscar moved to Chicago, Illinois. During his years in Chicago, Oscar was the father of five children: Carol, Valerie, Annette, Reggie and Sheldon. During these years Oscar was employed at International Harvester and other places where he began to learn some of his many skills.
In 1970 Oscar moved to Denver, Colorado. He met Carolyn G. Williams at a convenience store and after the courting process, they were married at Macedonia Baptist Church on September 17, 1971. Oscar and his wife enjoyed traveling and spending time with their friends and family whether it was at a barbecue or a night out on the town. In his wife's words she enjoyed their long lasting partnership that was filled with love, care, and laughter. She will remember his companionship, his ability to keep her safe and most importantly his love for 45 years. To this union were born four children: Andre', Dramond, Gaylenn, and Nikesha. He was a loving father and grandfather. Some of the grands call him Papa and Grandpa and have memories of him cooking on the grill and going to the park. Many have memories of him up at the Waffle House. Some of his favorite pet names were Honey Roach Coach, Suga Poo Poo and Suga Pooch. Being a man of many facets, Oscar was employed at many places like Puritan Pie as a pie-maker and Black and White as a car painter. He worked at Coors Brewing Company as a Pipe-fitter for a number of years where he worked on a crew that assisted in the building of the Eisenhower Tunnel. He became self employed and started his own remodeling business.
In his free time he enjoyed building and creating and stealing away to get those naps in! Oscar will be most remembered for his honesty and ability to help in any situation. He was a loyal man and a provider, often giving you his last if you needed. He was a man of many colors but his color of choice was green. He loved roses and even planted rare colors for his wife. His favorite music was oldies and blues, especially the Temptations and Eddie Kendricks. Oscar was an amazing man, often leaving you saying, "Wow!" A little man with a big heart and filled with generosity, he was always willing to help and was a great teacher. He would always share what he knew and wanted more for everyone around. He was a phenomenal father and provider; a hero to the children. He was very present in the house, physically and emotionally in his way, mainly leading by example. Oscar leaves to cherish his memories his wife, Carolyn Holliday of Denver, CO; children, Carol Daniel, Valerie (Paul) Daniel-Mick, Annette Lanking, Reggie Daniel, Sheldon Dornell, Andre' (Danielle) Holliday of Aurora, CO, Dramond (Tracie) Holliday of Denver, CO, Gaylenn (Amy) Holliday of Aurora, CO and Nikesha Holliday of Denver, CO; brothers, Lewis Jackson of Denver, CO and Albert Fields of St. Louis, MO; sisters, Rosaie Lee Livingston of Chicago, IL, and Mattie Lee Sanders of Joliet, IL; sisters-in-law, Margie Jackson, Yolanda Jackson, and Linda Williams all of Denver CO, and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
