The sun rose on the life of Mrs. Barbara Marie Banks on October 24, 1929 in Denver, Colorado when she was born to James H. Collins and Jessie M. Ford. The third of four children, she had one brother James and two sisters, Mary and Jeannette. A loving child, Barbara was always very helpful to her parents. She fondly remembered growing up in Pasadena California and knowing Jackie Robinson and his family all of her life. Educated in the public school system, she graduated from Washington High School in Pasadena. In September, 1946, Barbara was united in marriage with Willie Banks whom she met at a friends house. The couple exchanged their vows in Las Vegas. To this union were born six children, Phillip, Denise, Cynthia, Stephen, Chuckie and Kim. Additionally, she helped raise her sister Mary's children, Larry, Rose Marie and Gary. Barbara was a loving wife and devoted mother. In later years, her many grandchildren and great grandchildren were a special source of joy in her life.
A woman of faith, Barbara was a member of The Potters House in Denver, Colorado where she had relocated. She served her Lord and the church as a true prayer warrior. She loved spreading the word of Jesus Christ. Barbara's professional life was in nursing. She was last employed at the Pomona Hospital in California until her retirement. In her free time, she enjoyed family, friends, cooking and talking about the Lord. Her best friends were Ruth Rogers and Fanny Stagg. They remember her cooking and her love of God and being a constant prayer warrior. Her love, faith, kindness and prayers will be deeply missed to all those who were blessed to have shared a part of this lovely lady's life. To know Barbara was to love her.
