Obituary of Jerry Leon Gunn

The sun rose on the life of Mr. Jerry "Leon" Gunn on August 25, 1958 in Denver, Colorado when he was born to Eddie and Geraline Gunn. The youngest of eight children, Leon had two brothers, Charles and Eddie and five sisters, Amie, Mae, Rachael, Helen and Judy. A happy child, he was always a fun-loving brother, uncle and friend. Educated in the public school system, Leon graduated from East High School in Denver. A man of faith, Leon grew up attending services at Bethel Church of Christ Holiness under the pastoral leadership of Bishop Russell. Then later, he attended Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church. "Leon was true to his family. He loved God, his mother and father. Even though he was in a wheelchair, he kept a positive outlook on life." He spent his vacations on the beach in San Diego, California. He loved riding through the neighborhood in Hose's classic cars. He liked coming home for birthdays and family barbeques. One of his favorite things to do was fishing with his parents. If he couldn't hook a fish, he would wait until they came over shallow water and hit it with a stick. He loved spending time with his nephew, Doyle Gunn and he loved the Denver Broncos. Leon's best friends were Redd, David Crowley, Lura, Rommel and Donald Mallard, his road dogs, Vicki and Robbie, the Pinky brothers and Tony Mims. All of his friends loved him for having their back and his sense of humor. He was often heard to say, "If you was as happy as your head is nappy...", "You little crumb snatchers" and "If you see a hobo, you know it's Bobo." His favorite colors were blue and orange (Broncos colors), he liked roses and enjoyed all types of music. His love, enjoyment of life and caring for others will be deeply missed by all who were blessed to have shared a part of this wonderful man's life. To know Leon was to love him. The sun set on the life of Mr. Jerry "Leon" Gunn on June 26, 2017 when the Lord called him home to eternal rest. He is preceded in death by his parents and sister, Rachael. Those left to cherish his memory include his sisters, Amie (Burt) House of Aurora, CO, Mae (Quentin) Watkins, Judy Gunn and Helen (Lionel) Brooks, all of Denver, CO; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
