Obituary of Pastor David Young
Please share a memory of Pastor to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
"For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand, I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth, there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me that day: and not only to me, but unto all them also that love his appearing." 1 Timothy 4:6-8
On Monday July 3, 2017 Pastor David Young departed this life at 10:10 am at our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. He was the 7th child out of 12 born to the union of the late Henry and Minnie Veals Young on January 9, 1940 in Clinton, Louisiana. David was a graduate of East High School where he played on the state champion football team. After graduating high school David decided to move to Chicago, IL. One day he was walking by Portland St. C.O.G.I.C. where he heard the beautiful voice of a young lady singing. That voice belonged to Mable Goodwin whom he met and she eventually became the love of his life. They were married on August 4, 1963. To this union two children were born, Darlyne Young Dixon (Aurora, CO) and Darwin A. C. Young (Greensboro, NC). David and Mable moved to Denver, Colorado in 1971.
Eventually David and Mable became members of Antioch C.O.G.I.C. under the leadership of Bishop Frank Elijah Johnson. While at Antioch David became an ordained Elder while Mable earned her Doctorate degree of education. The Lord gave David a vision to start his own church. In April of 1984, Faith Temple C.O.G.I.C. was established at 1300 Iola St., Aurora. The Lord blessed Faith Temple to grow under Pastor David & Dr. Mable's leadership. Together they made an awesome team.
Pastor Young would often say to Dr. Young, "With the wisdom God has given me and the education God has given you, we are going to go places". Pastor Young was well known and respected for his financial acumen. He managed to pay off little Faith Temple in just nine years.
Pastor Young was a man of faith and believed in the scripture found in Psalms 37:4; "Delight thyself in the Lord; and he will give thee the desires of thine heart". He had a desire to expand the church so he could have classrooms, a kitchen and fellowship hall, as well as, an area for children to play. It was prophesied to him that the church would be moving and sure enough in about a year of the prophecy the Lord blessed Faith Temple with a new home at 12400 E. Hoffman Blvd. Aurora, CO 80011 in late 1994.
Pastor Young served in several capacities over the years. He served on the Jurisdictional financial team for several years under Bishop Frank Elijah Johnson. He was on the Jurisdictional ordination board for over 15 years. In addition, he served as the Administrative Assistant to the Rocky Mountain District since 2004 under the leadership of Superintendent W. H. McDonald. Family was of the utmost importance to Pastor Young. He always enjoyed being around his family in Louisiana and looked forward to coming home for family reunions.
He will always be loved and remembered by his wife of 54 years, Dr. Mable Young, his daughter, Darlyne Young (Dean) Dixon and son, Darwin A. (Wanda) Young. He will forever be loved and cherished by his grandchildren, Jaslynn, Jasari, and Jaleel Dixon, and Anthony and Antonia Young. He loved and shall be sorely missed by his siblings, Henry (Lemon), Margaret Rivers, Percy, Leroy, Charlie, Bernell and Joseph (Bob) as well as, all of his nephews, nieces and cousins.
He enjoyed and loved his Faith Temple Family and will forever be loved and missed by them. Pastor Young was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Johnny Young, Sr. and three sisters, Mary Henderson, Ida MaeSellers, and Emma Williams. Pastor Young was a man after God's own heart and was full ofintegrity. He has touched the lives of a multitude of people.
