The sun rose on the life of Mrs. Doris Evon Harris on June 2, 1948 in Warren, Arkansas when she was born to Arthur and Celeste Burnett. The oldest of six children, she had two brothers, Dwain and Arthur and three sisters, Arda, Starla and Selma. As a child, Doris was ambitious, adventurous, outgoing, outspoken and giving. "She was church going as a child, took care of her siblings and was a good role model." Educated in the public school system, Doris graduated from Manual High School in Denver, Colorado in 1966. She continued her education at Community College of Denver where she earned an Associate Degree in Business Administration. In 1984, Doris was united in marriage with Al Harris whom she had met through a mutual friend. The couple exchanged their vows at her mother's home. "They always had fun. They enjoyed social entertainment and going to the dog tracks." Doris was a devoted wife. Additionally, she was the loving mother of two handsome sons, Sean and Robbie. They remember, "Mom always pushed us to be strong independent men. She never was judgmental, but was the type of person who lifted you up and gave you power and strength through understanding and wisdom. We could talk to her about anything and get an honest answer. She also taught us to stand up for ourselves, no matter what." Her grandchildren, Brittani, Tre, Jordan and Lee Ann remember "Grandma" was loving, compassionate and understanding. She loved them dearly as they did her. A woman of faith, Doris was a member of Ogden Street Church of God in Christ where she served on the Usher Board and with the Young People Willing to Work. She was employed with Eastside Action Center in a clerical position. She had also worked at Kaiser and at First National Bank. In her free time, Doris enjoyed family, friends, cooking, looking after her children, shopping and social occasions. Her best friends, Vickie Henry, Jackie Jones, the Wrightsell brothers, Jean Harris and the McDonalds; Janice and the late Missy. Morgan loved her for her loyalty and her spirit. Known for humor and laughter, Doris was strong willed, independent, adventurous, wise, understanding and uplifting. Her favorite colors were purple, black and gold. She loved roses and lilies and most enjoyed listening to jazz. With humor and laughter, "she lived life the way she wanted, without regret". This smiling, loving and wonderful woman was deeply loved and will be greatly missed. The sun set on the life of Mrs. Doris Evon Harris on August 21, 2017 when the Lord called her home to eternal rest. She is preceded in death by her husband and father.
