I am Valerie’s old college roommate, and I just found out that she passed as I went to wish her a Merry Christmas today. Valerie was a person who accepted everyone right where they were at, she had so much Joy and was such a genuinely good person, she could fine the humor in any situation and that’s what I loved about her. Even when she got down which was very rare, she was determined not to stay down. On one of our college breaks she invited us to go home to Hammond In with her and we stayed with the Banks ! What a loving warm and inviting family they were, we had a wonderful time and it registrars way high in my college memories. Valerie will be truly missed by every one who her life has touched because she brought so much joy and laughter. Rest in piece roomy, you will be forever missed.

Val was one my dearest friends. When she moved to Denver with Levell we all enjoyed a year of Love and Friendship that will never be forgotten. We did everything together, along with our new friend, Greg Head. Playing cards, grilling out, going out, skiing, clelebrating Christmas and New Years together. Being from the Chicago area, we held a legendary super bowl party the year the Bears won it all. I cannot believe you are gone, but Heaven has a new flower in the garden and Levell has his soul mate.

I remember meeting Mitch prior to meeting Val. It was late '83 or early '84. He, like other modern day miners, came to Denver looking for gold - in this case, a better life for he and his wife. Mitch would always talk about how much he loved his wife. He loved to tell the story of how they met at the hospital, how much in love they were. When Val arrived it was a joyous time. She was always encouraging him as well as the rest of us. Their home was filled with love, open to everyone. I would always find myself hanging out there laughing, cracking jokes, eating great food and playing cards, listening to music or watching a movie from their extensive collection :-)
I am certain that the fireplace in heaven is going, Mitch is on the grill, and Val is being the quintessential hostess welcoming all the other angels over for a late afternoon get together.
Rest in Peace, Val. Give Lavell a big hug for me. I miss you both!
