Obituary of Ora Jeanetta Macon
Please share a memory of Ora to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Life’s journey begin for Ora Jeanetta Macon on June 29, 1955, in Gary, Indiana when she was born to Tommy Macon and Dorothy Cook. She was the second out of seven children, Ora had three brothers John, Bobby, Tommie and three sisters Leola, Lilly, and Ramona. As a child, Ora was always joyful and caring. She liked spending time with her siblings. While living in Gary she attended school with her then crush Jermaine Jackson. Ora was a good kid, who did not get into much trouble. She attended South High School and graduated in 1973.
Ora was the proud mother of LaTonya and Alisha. They remember how holidays were always a big deal. Easter was special and she would always create a huge table display with eggs, candy, and lots of colored grass as we looked forward to it every year. She always made sure holidays and birthdays were fun. Ora was blessed with one grandchild Tyrique Green whom she loved dearly.
Ora was a member of Progressive Missionary Baptist Church for many years. By profession, Ora worked in the hospitality industry including some Downtown hotels where she was involved with banquet setups for many years. She worked the longest at the University of Colorado hospital where she was a Dietary Aide, who really enjoyed her job.
In her free time, Ora enjoyed playing cards spades and tonk as well as dominoes. Her best friends Donna, Robin and Sandy will always remember her for her unconditional love and laughter. Ora and Donna were a part of the Diamonettes singing group. They would compete against other groups from the neighborhood where they would often be the ones to win.
Her favorite color was royal blue, she loved all types of flowers and old school music like Kool and The Gang, The O’Jays, Whitney Houston and Zapp and Rogers just to name a few.
Ora will always be remembered as a very caring person, always willing to help anyone in need, family oriented and outgoing. She always made the best pork chops, rice and homemade gravy and loved to eat banana pudding, Mexican food, and ribs.
Ora will be greatly missed as the center piece of the family. She was a great mother, sister, aunt, and friend to many.
Ora is preceded in death by her parents, brother Bobby Henderson and sister Ramona Macon.
