Knowing Nicole gave us the blessing of knowing the both of you. Nate's unexpected death has left a massive void in our extended family and the Denver community at large.
He was a gifted mentor, teacher, coach. He was also Uncle Nato to our children and a confidante/lifelong brother from another mother to Chris Sr.(even though I met him first at East High School). Way back in those days, we both were designated "third wheel tag-a-longs" spending an unusual amount of time together freshman year because both of our best friends were dating.
So many memories have brought me to tears and even more heartfelt laughter this past week. As we all adjust to this new normal, I am grateful for the numerous family gatherings, Manual HS football games (Go TBolts!), every activity that Miss Natalie and Miss Nicole participated in, the weddings and funerals. Especially the birthdays...there was always plenty of soul food, some kind of soul train line, and of course, the unlimited heavy debate around sports.
He had a big heart and loved his family and friends dearly.
I am most grateful for the 40-year friendship he shared with his closest high school friends (brothers by choice) - fondly known as GGOA (Good Guys of America). They took the title seriously in all their respectful fields and supported each other through good and bad times. It is rare to find a "real friend", let alone a core group of friends over 40 years.
Sending love and light to his wife Michele, his sisters, two beautiful daughters, his stepchildren, and the Howard extended family. Also the numerous people he shared his gifts, humor, and heart with, in so many ways.
I am sure he is in heaven, sitting at the best fishing spot with a rod in his hand, smiling at us all.
Rest in paradise Nathaniel Howard, III. Please send love to Ms. Latson, Nanny Pepper, Boobie, and my parents.
