Obituary of Ima Jean Goodman
Please share a memory of Ima to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
The sun rose on the life of Ima Jean (Brewster) Goodman on October 10, 1945, in Wyatt, Missouri, where she was raised by her mother Annie Liza Brewster, and her grandfather, Roy Brewster Sr. Ima completed her formative school years in the Hayti, Missouri, and went on to graduate from Hayti High School in 1965.
Ima soon moved from Missouri, lived for a few years in Chicago and then moved to Los Angeles, California., where she met and married her husband, Henry C Goodman. She worked for nine years at Bank of America, in Customer Relations; and then worked for Teledyne Inc., for seven years. She was a property management assistant for over ten years as well. During this time, she also attended and graduated from El Camino College, in 1992.
Ima was a devoted mother, caregiver, and Grandmother. She ensured that her son was brought up in a home filled with love and with a solid spiritual foundation. She supported him with all his life dreams and endeavors, when it came to music, sports and fashion modeling. She was always in attendance at all his musicals and sporting events. She also served as the PTA Board Lead for the school district for over twelve years. Another great joy of her life was being a grandmother and being able to share in their development and care. She was always willing to be there for them in any way that she could.
Ima moved to Denver, Colorado in 2012, where she reconnected with family and friends. She soon joined Scott United Methodist Church in August of 2015, where she met and bonded with many new friends, and often referred to them as her family as well. She was a devoted member and faithfully served the Church and the Community in many capacities. She was an active usher; a member of the adult praise dance group; a member of the anniversary committee; and assisted with distributing food at the Church Foodbank.
The sun set on the life of Ima Jean Goodman on September 8, 2022. She was preceded in death by her mother Annie Liza Brewster and grandfather, Roy Brewster, Sr, and her husband Henry C Goodman. Ima is survived by her beloved son, Brannen Goodman (California); and her cherished love and companion, Fred Boyd and his daughter Adrianne Boyd; her brothers: Richard Brewster (Maryland) and Charles Brewster (Missouri); her eight beautiful grandchildren; a host of cousins, nieces; nephews; extended family; her church family; old friends and new friends she met during her medical care needs.
Ima was always so positive and grounded in her faith and relationship with God; and when asked how she was, her response was always, “I am Blessed and can’t complain”.
