Joyce had a talent for creating friendly spaces. I first noticed this when she installed a patio in her back yard with an inviting table and trellis. It looked like a good place to spend time with friends and family. Sure enough, people started spending time there. Inside, her house is equally warm and welcoming.
The front room is very cozy with lots of interesting details, but one is drawn to go further inside, to the kitchen. And the kitchen is the social center, with its bar stools around the island and the entertainment center nearby. When you are in that house with friends and family you just feel good.
She clearly had an instinct for making people feel comfortable. But the best thing one finds in Joyce's house are the friends and family she cared for and gathered around her. Joyce was a very special lady and I hope everyone she touched retains a bit of her dignity and grace along with an eye for creating friendly spaces.
