My dear sister and friend Lylaus Keyes will truly be missed in our sorority's sisterhood and in the Richardson family. Your mom and my mom created wonderful memories that I will cherish until the end of time. Those memories bring me joy and the biggest smile on my face when I think about them.
May fond memories of your mother bring you comfort during this hard time in your life. My heart and prayers go out to the Keyes family.
God bless always,
Susan Trahan

My dear family of Lylaus Keys,
It is my honor as one of her sorority sisters, and a friend, to write this small portion of so much more to be said for such a great human being, mother, wonderful widow of an awesome husband that she stood so close to in life as a partner. She was a great advocate for political justice, a wonderful educator, mother, and family member, sister and friend. She was so sweet and dear to many. Her memory will be cherished greatly. Her beautiful smile would brighten up a room. We love her and will truly miss this fine lady...God bless you as a family. My prayers are with you as you for forth.
Respectfully submitted,
Soror Joslyn Owens - Chaplain (AKA) Epsilon Nu Omega

Mother Lylaus was my "pew partner" at church along with being my sorority sister. She was wise, compassionate and always kind. She cared about people in general and students in particular. She was a faith-filled woman, and it was an honor to be in her presence. She was a gift to our beloved community.

Lylaus Keyes.....my friend, soror, my sweetheart and the sister I never had. We met some years ago and remained friends throughout life's ups and downs over the years. We were both public school teachers and we both loved teaching no matter how challenging some of the students were or the circumstances were. We never stopped fulfilling what life experiences gave us.
My friend loved traveling and so did I. we often traveled together to places we had never been before nor did we always know how to speak the language, but together we created fun memories.
My friend enjoyed life to the fullest. She lost a daughter and her husband, but she still had a wonderful attitude towards life.
Lylaus enjoyed all that life had to offer. She didn't meet strangers and very often became a friend to people she had just met. Her memory will be a part of my life as long as I live. I pray we will meet again in that place called "Heaven".
I love you my sister Loretta T.

Mrs. Keyes touched my life in so many ways. She and her family bravely and nobly faced strife and adversity as they fought to bring equitable education for all children. She was an elder I looked up to with her kind, gentile nature. She was my sorority sister who always had a gracious smile and a kind word. I am so thankful I was able to share a part of this world with her. Blessings to her and her family. I know she is with the angels smiling down upon us.

Mrs. Keyes is a community treasure who has blessed us with her presence, wisdom, beauty, and intellect for decades. The totality of who she is cannot adequately be put into words. I sat at her feet to hear her vision for education and for our children in awe of her unwavering commitment. We will miss her as a loving mother, friend, community elder, spiritual advisor, and educational icon. Love to the Keyes family. Keep your mother's loving wit, motherly nurturing, and history alive.

Remembering Mom Lylaus Keyes, It broke my heart when christie called and said Mom was gone Thought of all the social events we attended over the years.. Seeing her dressed for the annual Ebony Fashion Show or for Sunday morning church services at Shorter Community AME Church. Words of Comfort. "But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope. For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him. For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep. For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air and so shall we ever be with the Lord." May God Bless us All
