Miss Owetta, the scent of Beautiful. I meet Owetta at a Colorado Black Health Collaborative event where she was selling her oils. She explained to my wife and I, in detail, the nuances of the various essential oils and how they could be an healthy and beautiful addition to our lives. Shortly after that I joined CSTAHR and I was glad and surprised to see that she was a community member. It might seem strange, but I actually enjoyed walking her to her car after some meetings. It gave me a sense of community, the needing and giving of community family. She was always pleasant, uplifting and nurturing even when she was going through her own trials. Personally it was to my benefit to have known her as a positive elder and inspiration. Peace and Blessings as you travel safely back to the essence.

Owetta was an amazing storyteller who believed deeply in equity, justice and service. I knew Owetta as a community guide for the CCTSI Colorado Immersion Training in Community Engagement Program and through CSTAHR. It was always a gift and honor to be in her presence. Condolences and Prayers to her family.

I was saddened to hear that you passed away. Truly you will be missed. You were like a mother, sister, friend and great leader. I am so sorry that you did not live to see Sondra Young- President of the NAACP Denver Branch arrested and put in jail for all the money that she stole from the branch.
You are at a better place. No more pain, no more suffering. Ms. Owetta- I will miss the trips with you to Black Hawk. Your leadership, planning and organization skills.
Love you.

To the family of Owetta, I’m sure it was hard having a strong mom who you had to share with so many others. She was loved and respected and such a caring woman. She and I were a part of the DAEOP and remained in contact until December 2023. Sincere condolences ….
