Pat is/was like my sister, and will be missed very much. I feel very priviledged to be a member of our family, because I appreciate all our diversity, personalities and love them all very much. Pat's memory, along with Leetta's, my mother, Audrey, and other family member's that have passed away, will always be in my heart.

Dear Yarbrough Family, I, along with my brother, met Pat when I was a young child. Her grace and warmth radiated from her each and every time I was near her and could be seen in that wonderful smile so many know. Even decades later, her warmth and generous spirit may be recalled with ease and her kindness remains alive. And though losing a loved one is never easy, I send my condolences and pray that everyone may remember her in their hearts, where all loved ones reside. Johnny

In your album of family pictures is one that particularly tugs at my heart strings. It is the one of Pat as a young child. When we were both 9 years old, my father bought an old and not very seaworthy fishing boat that we used to tour the islands of Southeast Alaska. We put into Warm Springs Bay, on the east side of Baranof Island, and were so charmed by the place that we stayed a couple of weeks. Pat and her mother were there visiting the Bahovics. We girls had such fun, running all over the boardwalks and docks, down to the saltery, and up to the hot springs and to the lake. I hold Pat's memory dear. I want to share a touching coincidence with you. After growing up in Juneau with the Caldwell girls, Juanita, Lietta, and Pat,(yes, and Audrey and Luther, too), I moved to a very small town in interior Alaska where one of my best friends for the last 40 years has been a "Pat" ---- and would you believe she has two older sisters named Juanita and Leota! May God uphold and comfort you all.

Dear Yarbrough family, I was so happy to get a chance to stroll down the beach with pat at our 50th class reunion, and have a nice chat. I was so tickled at how happy pat was to have won the little gold flake that I donated at our reunion. I hope it carrys many golden memories for all of you. Dale Henkins

My Juneau-Douglas High School class of '61 has lost another one of it's members. Pat was a very gracious lady and we enjoyed the time spent at our class reunions talking with her. Our heartfelt condolences go out to her family and we send our prayers to you during this sad time for us all! Hugs and prayers, Dave and Linda

One of my particular pleasures regarding the recent Class of '61 Reunion was seeing Pat and giving her a brief hug and chatting briefly with her. She was vibrant, lovely, and gracious during our too-brief conversation. And one of my greatest regrets regarding the reunion came later, when I heard of Pat's recurrent illness and realized how brief and inadequate that hug and chat had been. Pat indirectly taught me important lessons that I would like to believe ultimately made me a better person. I didn't try to tell her that last June, but I should have.

Even though my relationship to Pat was simply that of a classmate in Juneau, she has always held a special place in my heart. Pat was clearly "one of us." At our reunions and Juneau-Douglas picnics, she was someone I looked forward to seeing, and someone with whom I was ALWAYS comfortable chatting. In this age of political correctness, I hesitate to even say this, but I am grateful to Pat for the valuable lessons she taught me about race relations, lessons that I have carried with me to this day. Back then - late '50's till graduation - was, according to the history books, a tense period, with the Civil Rights Movement in full swing. The beauty of it was that we, the JDHS Class of 1961, were oblivious to that, thanks in large part to Pat. We saw her first, and I believe ONLY, as a CLASSMATE. Pat taught us each far better and on a more personal level, what Martin Luther King meant when he said, "I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character." Pat set an example of kindness, grace and humor for me, our class, and I am certain the many others who knew and loved her through the years. I thank her and her family and will miss her greatly.
