Obituary of Mary Frances Dismukes

Please share a memory of Mary to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
The sun rose on the life of Mrs. Mary Frances Dismukes on April 17, 1945 in Biloxi, Mississippi when she was born to Bragg and Bertha Long Jamison. The oldest of seven children, Mary had one brother, Fredrick and five sisters, Catherine, Jeanne, Barbara, Althea and Joan. An intensely curious child, Mary was always hiding out and listening to adult conversations. As a result, she knew a wealth of family history. Her sister remembers, "She was the big sister to all of her siblings; forever protective and setting an example of how we should live." Educated in the public school system, Mary graduated with Salutatorian Honors from Elizabeth H. Keys High School in Ocean Springs, MS. She continued her education at Dillard University in New Orleans earning a B.A. Degree in Physical Education. She continued on to the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley, CO earning a M.A. in Psychology. On June 18, 1971, Mary was united in marriage with Maurice Dismukes in Denver, Colorado. The couple exchanged their vows at the Arapahoe County Courthouse. No children were born to this union. A woman of faith, Mary was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church in Ocean Springs, MS. She joined Zion Baptist Church in Denver, CO upon relocation there. She was a member of the Evergreen Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star, Delta Sigma Theta Soroity, Inc. and Quettes and Owlettes. Mary was employed with the Aurora Public School System, teaching Physical Education and Counseling at North Middle School for 30 years. Her students and fellow teachers loved her and remember her love of the Red Apple Sales at Macy's. In her free time, Mary enjoyed traveling, gaming, gardening, shopping for antiques and spending time with family. She was a "dancing queen". Her best friends were Chris Stevenson, Carol Fortenberry, Gwen Amos, Brenda Granger and Jean Whittle. We all loved her beautiful smile and caring nature. She loved blue, roses and anything sung by Levert and Luther VanDross. Her loving, caring, nurturing and fun loving nature will be deeply missed by all who were blessed to have shared a part of this lovely lady's life. To know Mary was to love her. The sun set on the life of Mrs. Mary Frances Dismukes on April 22, 2015 when the Lord called her home to eternal rest. She is preceded in death by her parents and sister, Catherine. Those left to cherish her memory include her husband, Maurice Dismukes of Aurora, CO; brother, Fredrick Longs of Aurora, CO; sisters, Barbara Longs of Denver, CO, Jeanne (Thomas) Meggs, II of Waveland, MS, Althea Ducksworth and Joan Gains; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. Rest in peace...Mrs. Mary
