Obituary of Jaquetta W. Augustus

Please share a memory of Jaquetta to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
The life of a beautiful and virtuous woman began on February 28, 1921. Jaquetta W. Augustus was the last child born to Ed and Lala (Bostic) Washington. She had eight siblings: Willena Seals, Dutchie Lee James, Eddie Bell Hunter, Emma Chiles (who is 105 years old), Clara Bell Draper, George Washington, Charles Washington and Fayetta Curry. Jaquetta was a virtuous wife, which is hard to find. Her worth was far more precious than gold or diamonds. Her husband, Boisy Augustus of 49 1/2 years, who trusted her without reserve, never had reason to regret his decision. Her husband was greatly respected by others. She was never spiteful, and she always treated him generously for the entirety of their married life. Mom / GaGa, was highly respected and blessed. Her husband always spoke words of praise. Boisy loved her unconditionally. When you saw him, she was always by his side. They loved to entertain, both were very hospitable, loved to cook together, they would sit and pick greens, snap green beans together, bake cakes and other delectable foods. They were truly woven together by the Holy Spirit. When people entered their homes they would feel the love and peace of God. She was always quick to assist her family: her daughter, her three grandsons: Gregory LaVon Mitchell, Andre LaMar Mitchell and Sean LaRue Mitchell, whom she loved unconditionally. She loved her two daughter-in-laws, Erica and Chantel Mitchell. Her grandchildren were the apple of her eye: McKenzie, Miles and Matthew Mitchell, who are God fearing, loving, kind and respectful young people. She never worried about her family, when it snowed they had winter clothes ready to wear. She made clothes for herself, her daughter and her grandsons when they were young, using the finest fabrics that looked like they came from the most elegant department stores. She enjoyed assisting and teaching others to sew and quilt. Her quilts are a legacy that she sold to others and quilted by hand stitch by stitch, mimics her patience and perfection. Jaquetta always shopped around for the best material, she enjoyed sewing, tailoring, quilting and embroidering. She loved to travel to faraway places and brought back exciting gifts. She was an early riser, prepared breakfast for her family and organized her day. She and her husband purchased two homes, where she planted her gardens with loving care. They were very wise with their money, and she was a coupon queen. A true woman of God, Jaquetta joined Timber Hills Baptist Church, and accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior and Master, and was baptized at the age of 13 in the pool in Timber Hill, Oklahoma. Both she and Boisy enjoyed singing in the choir. Still at the age of 94, Jaquetta was active in the Missionary Society at New Hope where she joined in 1948. She was active in her present church, First Church of the Nazarene that they joined in the 1980's. They attended Sunday School every week. Jaquetta was also active in a weekly sewing club and a social club at Martin Luther King Recreation Center. She loved family and friends and staying busy in her quiet manner. First thing in the morning, she ate breakfast, got dressed and rolled up her sleeves, eager to take on the day with all of its challenges. She sensed the worth of her work, was never in a hurry to call it quits for the day, she always faced each day with calmness and a smile; she was never stressed or worried, always trusting God to provide. She was skilled in the crafts and together with her daughter Quetta, they had a business for over twenty years; JQ's Designs, where she sold her crafts and designer clothing. Her clothes were well made and elegant. Not to mention, all of the delicious fruits she canned: peach preserves, apple butter, apple juice, grape jelly and grape juice, rhubarb jelly, strawberry jelly, and zucchini relish. When you walked in her home, you felt the love, the joy, the peace and of course, the organization. When she spoke she had something worthwhile to say, and she aways said it kindly. Even though she never attended college, Jaquetta was the wisest one in the family and her opinion was highly respected from her daughter and grandsons all of whom have advanced degrees. When they were unsure of a decision they would say "Let's ask GaGa." She was brilliant. She kept an eye on everyone in her family and made sure we all kept busy and very productive. Compromise was not an option. "Many women have done wonderful things, but Mom you've outclassed them all. Charm can mislead and beauty soon fades. The woman to be admired and praised is the woman who lives in the Fear of God. Today we are giving her everything she deserves. The rewards she has earned. Jaquetta, Mom, GaGa we love you, and you should be praised in public for everything you have done for all of us. Now this is a Virtuous woman that has set the bar extremely high for all to emulate. We love you and look forward to seeing you when God calls us home." The earthly story of this beautiful virtuous woman ended on October 24, 2015 when the Lord called her to come to her eternal home. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband and seven of her siblings. Those left to cherish her memory include her daughter, Rev. Quetta Augustus-Keenan; grandsons, Gregory LaVon Mitchell, Andre LaMar Mitchell and Sean LaRue Mitchell; grandchildren, McKenzie Mitchell, Miles Mitchell, Matthew Mitchell, Erica Mitchell and Chantel Mitchell; sister, Emma Chiles and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many friends.
