Obituary of Louis Harris Pettis
Please share a memory of Louis to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
It is written that when life begins it is like an open book with many blank pages. Each day as we live our deeds are recorded page by page until we close our eyes in death and await that great getting up morning. Louis Harris Pettis, known to some as Pettis and others as Dad Pettis, was born on March 12, 1946 to the late Mr. Houston Harris and Mrs. Opal Lambert Harris Franklin in Hardeman County, Tennessee and departed this life to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Saturday, December 5, 2015. His Christian experience began at an early age when he accepted Christ and united with Macedonia Baptist Church in Jackson, Tennessee. He was united in marriage to the late Clara L. Pettis on July 15, 1971. They later moved to Denver, Colorado in 1974 and there he united with Central Baptist Church. He received his formal education in the Weakly and Madison County Public School System and graduated in 1963 from Merry High School in Jackson, TN. He went on to get his B.S. Degree in Political Science from Tennessee State University in 1967. Louis taught History and was a guidance counselor at Sikeston Sr. High School for 3 years. To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the Heavens, a time to be born and a time to die. Ecclesiastes 3:1 He is preceded in death by his sister, Bobbie Ruth Pettis Black; brothers, Daryl Harris, Glenn Harris and Otis Franklin and stepson, Ronald Sauls. Dad Pettis leaves to cherish his memory stepdaughters, Janet S. Green of Memphis, TN and Karen D.
