Obituary of Barbara Ann Robinson-Newell
Please share a memory of Barbara to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Barbara Robinson-Newell was born on November 6, 1946 in Hazlehurst, Mississippi to Ellis and
Willena Young. Her step-mother, Alean Young (deceased) and step-father, Tom Jordan Sr. were also
instrumental in her upbringing. She was the oldest of eight children and was preceded in death by
her father, both of her step-parents and her brother Henry Earl Jordan. As a child, Barbara was happy and a true joy to be around. She liked to fight (don't laugh...) seriously though, those that truly knew her know that she would defend herself, her family and most anyone else if she felt there was a need. She also had a love for dancing. She would dance with anyone, at any time to any type of music for as long as they wanted to dance. She received her education at Westside High School in Jackson, Mississippi and earned an Associate's Degree from the Community College of Denver. She accepted Christ at a young age and was a member of True Light Baptist Church in Denver, CO where she served as a Greeter. She worked for MCI as a Customer Service Representative for many years. She was an inactive member of the Order of the Eastern Star and the Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. friend network, Zeta Amicae. During her time as an Amicae she served as President and other leadership roles. She had a special relationship with each of her Amicae Sisters and enjoyed supporting the initiatives of the Sorority. She married her best friend and soul mate, Willie Newell, on July 29, 2003 in Denver, Colorado. They have been together since 1987. Willie and Barbara were retired and loved to travel, visiting various places over the years. Her favorite place to visit was Hawaii. They enjoyed attending family reunions yearly and spending quality time with family and friends. They were committed, devoted and truly loved one another. He was her rock and in turn, she was his. Barbara loved her children Lee, Anthony and Sandy very much and made sure other people knew how proud of them she was. She had a good relationship with her step-daughter, Chalonda and all of her grandchildren (Mary, Champaine, T'Shinae, Taven, Chauncey, Avery, JaCorrie, NaKia, Savanah, Malik and Tyrese). She was a loving and hands on mother, grandmother, daughter, sister and friend. She was always dressed to the nine....sharper than sharp from head to toe. She absolutely loved the mountains, clouds, watching the different types of birds fly in to sit on their lake and butterflies. Her smile would light up any room she entered. She was an inspiration to everyone that had the pleasure of crossing her path. If you did not want to hear the truth, it was best not to ask her. Sometimes you heard her opinion and were given advice even if you did not ask for it, but the advice and opinions were from her heart and rooted in love. She truly went above and beyond for those she loved. She had a number of great friends and helped many people along the way. She will be remembered for her kindness, generosity, caring disposition and honesty. One lasting impact she made on others as she fought this battle was the fact that her faith never wavered and inspired many to face adversity. She always gave the glory to God. She will truly be missed. She leaves to cherish her memory her devoted husband, Willie D. Newell; sons, Anthony and Lee Robinson of Aurora, CO; daughter, Cassandra Robinson (Gerald Ray fiancée); step-daughter, Chalonda Newell-Reagor, both of Denver, CO; mother, Willena Jordan; sisters, Rosemary Turner and Kaylin (Curtis) Sheriff; brothers Tom Jordan Jr., Billy Jordan, Ricky Jordan and Stevie Jordan, 11 grandkids, 3 great-grand kids, special niece and friend, Patsy Dishmon and a host of aunts, uncles, other relatives and friends.
