Obituary of Larry Shannon Jackson
Please share a memory of Larry to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Larry S. Jackson was born on January 14, 1947 in Higginsville, Missouri to Charles and Kathryn Jackson, Jr. The fourth of six children, Larry had five siblings, William (deceased), Manuel "Gene", Joyce, Larry, Gary and Brenda. At age 13 Larry began boxing, won his first Golden Gloves Championship title for Feather-weight Division, and went on to win and hold the title "135 lb. Champion" for two consecutive years thereafter. The president of Iowa Golden Gloves said Larry was his hero and one of the greatest boxers in the state. He graduated from Des Moines Technical High School. Larry met his childhood sweetheart, Maria. To that relationship, Laechia Jackson was born. Shortly thereafter, life took a turn and Larry moved to Minneapolis, Minnesota where he found employment as an Insurance Salesman. He enjoyed being a salesman. He was fascinated with meeting people and learning the city. This is when he met and married Irma. To that union, D'Shanna Jackson was born. As Larry began to advance and grow, he discovered his true calling and attended Culinary School, to become a Certified Sous Chef. In his spare time, Larry found great pleasure in fishing and playing pool. As he advanced and matured, chess and golf became his passion. Because of a yearning to do more traveling and be closer to family, he moved to Denver, Colorado. While pursuing a career, Larry became a Counselor and Rehabilitator for the State of Colorado. It was at this time that he met the love of his life, Robin who became his wife of 13 years. As their love grew, so did the thirst for God's Word. As their personal relationship became more powerful, God started performing so many miracles in their life, that friends and family knew he had become a changed man by God through Jesus Christ. Larry believed he received a call from God and joined Clayton Street Church of Christ. He was baptized and filled with the Holy Ghost. As Larry and Robin's relationship with God grew stronger, the Lord began to use them to start a Bible Study in their own home. Towards the end of his days, Larry enjoyed watching old westerns and boxing on TV. His desire was to be at home with his beloved wife, Robin and his two Yorkies, Eerie and Ja'Kay; listening to Jimmy Swagart's Praise Team and watching Billy Graham became his daily joy. Larry was an intelligent, honest, proactive man. He became a good listener who strived to seek out the message in words spoken by others during conversations. He enjoyed life to the fullest. On March 23, 2016, the Lord called Mr. Larry Shannon Jackson home to eternal rest. Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Robin W. Jackson of Denver, CO; daughters, Laechia Jackson of Des Moines, IA and D'Shanna Jackson of VA; brothers, Manuel E. (Pamela) Jackson of Aurora, CO and Gary Jackson of Des Moines, IA; sisters, Brenda (Henry) Cox and Joyce O.
