Rhonda Jean Porter departed this life on Thursday April 21, 2016. She was born February 22, 1973 in Kansas City, Kansas. She and her twin brother, Ronald, were the first of six siblings born to Rev. Grady Porter and Jamesetta (Wheeler) Porter. Rhonda received her education at Bamberg Elementary School (Bamberg, Germany); Hazel Grove Elementary School (Kansas City, Kansas); McDonald Middle School (Fort Knox, Kentucky); Coronado Junior High (Kansas City, Kansas) and she graduated from FL Schlagle High School in Kansas City, Kansas. Rhonda attended Central Missouri State University in Warrensburg, Missouri. She later received her CNA license. Her employment record was the Signature Loan Company in Kansas, General Electric and Coca Cola in Lenexa, Kansas. The family attended the Mount Sinai Missionary Baptist Church in Kansas City, Kansas under the pastorate of Pastor Isaac G. Gaines. At the young age of six, Rhonda was baptized. In 1982, the family moved to Fort Knox, Kentucky and united with the Fort Knox Seventh Avenue Gospel Hour under the pastorate of Pastor Earl Payton. In 1984, at the age of eleven, Rhonda was baptized for the second time by her father, Rev. Grady Porter. In 1985, the family moved back to Kansas City and reunited with the Mount Sinai Missionary Baptist Church under the pastorate of the late Pastor Isaac G. Gaines and in 1996, continued her service under the leadership of Pastor Elijah Clark, Jr. Rhonda was very active in the Choir and the Youth and Young Adult Ministries. In 2002, Rhonda moved her membership to the Forest Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Kansas City, Kansas under the pastorate of Pastor Desmond Lamb where she continued serving the Lord. In September 2004, Rhonda was diagnosed with stage two breast cancer. She went thru all of her treatments and was in remission only to find out two years later the cancer was back and had spread to other parts of her body and the diagnoses was stage four cancer. Rhonda stood strongly on her faith, trusting the Lord, with great determination, she became a strong voice encouraging women to not give up and fight for a cure for breast cancer thru the Susan G. Komen Foundation. Rhonda was a devoted and loving mother of four; Doneisha, Felicia, Winston Porter and the late Saverio Parker. In 2012, Rhonda moved her family to Denver, Colorado. Rhonda received the Susan G. Komen Foundation Purple Heart Award and in 2015, she was featured in the Susan G. Komen calendar and newspaper. Rhonda volunteered her time as a receptionist at the Foundation in Colorado. She loved serving the Lord and helping God's people. Her hobbies were watching game shows, creating jewelry and she had just taken up sewing. Rhonda's maternal grandparents, Brother James and Sister Georgetta Wheeler, her parental grandparents, Deacon Leroy and Sister Gracie Mae Porter and her beloved son, Saverio Parker, all preceded her in death. Rhonda leaves to cherish her memory; Two Daughters: Doneisha Porter (Springfield, Missouri), Felicia Porter (Columbia, Missouri) One Son: Winston Porter (Denver, Colorado) Her Loving Father: Rev. Grady (Rosie) Porter (Kansas City, Missouri) Her Loving Mother: Jamesetta Porter (Kansas City, Kansas) Four Brothers: Ronald Porter (Hinesville, Georgia), Grady T. Porter (Shawnee Mission, Kansas), Joshua (Brittany) Porter (Fort Scott, Kansas), Rev. John Porter (Kansas City, Kansas) One Sister: Christina Porter (Kansas City, Missouri) A host of Uncles, Aunts, Nephews, Nieces, Cousins and Good Friends Services for Ms. Porter will be at 10:30 am Saturday April 30, 2016 at Forest Grove Missionary Baptist Church, 1417 North 9th Street, Kansas City, Kansas. Visitation hours will be from 9-10:30 am Saturday April 30, 2016 at the church. Burial, Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. Services have been entrusted to Condolences are welcomed to be shared on this site, and Mrs. L.W. Jones Memorial Chapel.
