Obituary of Eric Stanley Stokes
Please share a memory of Eric to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
The sun rose on the life of Mr. Eric Stanley Stokes on February 6, 1962 in Chicago, Illinois when he was born to Cleveland and Juanita Stokes, Sr. The second of three children, he had two brothers, Kenneth and Cleveland, Jr. A happy and athletic child, Eric was always playing basketball. Educated in the public school system, he graduated from Joliet Central High School in Joliet, IL. He continued his education attending Joliet Junior College. On January 13, 1990, Eric was united in marriage with the love of his life, Barbara Davis in Joliet. He met her through his brother, Cleveland. They had a very loving relationship. He always gave her very lavish gifts for their anniversary every year. To this union were born two beautiful children, Te'a and Eric. He was a loving and devot-ed father and husband. The children loved their birthday dinners with him even though he managed to always be the one who picked the restaurant for the party. Eric was recently blessed with a precious grandchild, Braylen, who is one month old.
A man of faith, Eric was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Joliet. He had accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior at a young age. Eric was last employed with Transdev Denver and was also employed with Denver RTD in Denver, Colorado in the position of transit driver. He had previ-ously been employed with Pace Transit in Illinois. He was known for being dependable and a pleasure to work with. In his free time, Eric enjoyed family, friends, cooking on the grill and watch-ing sports. His best friends were Norman Evans, Ricky Login, Larry Hopkins, Ralph Alexander, Levi Duran Tony Macaroni as well as many others. His nickname was "Yoke Man" from his days of playing basketball in Joliet while growing up. Eric's favorite color was blue and he loved roses. He most enjoyed listening to R & B and Jazz. His favorite group was Earth, Wind and Fire. He always encouraged his children and every other kid he encoun-tered to stay in school, get their education and stay focused on what they wanted to do with their life. He was his wife's rock, always supporting her in everything she did. He was life, strength and confidant to his daughter and son. He truly loved his family. He had a smile that would light up an entire room. To know Eric was to love him and he will be greatly missed. The sun set on the life of Mr. Eric Stanley Stokes on April 24, 2016 when the Lord called him home to eternal rest.
